RESOURCES

Here's what I used to build this site!

You'll find a list of online resources and things I found particularly helpful in building this website and the features in it. I've also included links to several neocities sites that I like. They each have unique things to share, from webmastery to archived old web background tiles. Check 'em out!

FROM THE GROUND UP

MDN - The best resource for HTM and CSS hands down.

Stack Overflow - Also a good resource for HTML and CSS questions. Upvoted answers are generally quite useful.

Developer Tools - I learned a lot by looking at different Neocities pages' code. It's a great way to see how things work under the hood. You can find dev tools by clicking on the three vertical dots at the top right of your browser window, going to "other tools", then scrolling down to "developer tools".

HTML Color Codes - A handy colour picker that gives you hex, RGB, and HSL codes for the colour you choose. All my container backgrounds, borders, and text colours were chosen with this tool.

Google Fonts - This is where I got my favourite fonts! You can search by language, vibe, and style. You can either download fonts locally to use on your own personal computer, or get CSS code to embed the font in your website, making it viewable to all.

32-bit Cafe - A fabulous list of resources for web weavers of all skill levels. Links to everything from accessibility standards to zines. This is maintained by the good folks at 32-bit Cafe and you can join the community for more support and to chat with likeminded folks.

OTHER WEB RESOURCES

Atabook - A free guest book so you don't have to host your own! Customizable background, colours, and questions.

Clean PNG - A great source for free PNGs with transparent backgrounds.

Glitterboo - A free resource for making your own sparkly gifs.

GifCities - The Internet Archive's incredible collection of old web gifs. They have a decent collection of blinkies too!

Pixilart - My favourite tool for making pixel art assets. You can even use it to make gifs! If you make an account you have access to your drawings to edit them in the future, as well as access to a robust community of digital artists sharing their work.

USEFUL NEOCITIES PAGES

Sadgrl Online - An archived site with webmaster resources, including HTML/CSS guides, layouts, an archive of old web background tiles, and an 88x31 button maker. While the site is no longer active, it's still a solid resource for beginners.

Pixel Moondust - An incredible resource of old web background tiles, blinkies, icons, 88x31 buttons, and more. I get all my backgrounds from her.

PetraPixel - Another excellent site for webmaster resources, including a layout generator, various widgets, and beginner to advanced tutorials. I didn't find them until after I'd built my site but if you're a beginner, this is a good place to start learning.

JUST FOR FUN

Here's some nifty bits I haven't implemented yet but hope to do so in the future.

Glitter Gif Bordered Text Box - This is my white whale. Way beyond my skill level but I look forward to the day where I can create this abomination.

Visitor Counter - They don't work with free neocities sites, but if I ever switch to a paid site I'll add this immediately.
